With things heating up this summer on the National Beach Volleyball Series I thought I would keep you updated monthly as so much happens each and every day, I don’t want to overwhelm you with a 4 page newsletter all the time!
Tweet of the month:
Kurek Ashley – “We all have fear, we all have doubt, we all have insecurities. SO it’s not about if we have it or not, it’s about what we do with them. Remember that successful people develop themselves so they can better manage the way they think and feel.”
January started with a bang! I was in Bali for Christmas and New Year with friends and we got to set off our own fireworks on the beach (at 10pm mind you and straight to bed )
As soon as I landed back in Brisbane I had to escort the prize winner Gerald for the Pat Rafter auction item (from last years lunch) to the Brisbane International Tennis event.
Then a bit later in the month I had the pleasure of escorting Karrie Webb around Sanctuary Cove’s Palms golf course with winner Anne and Rob. Tough life I know.
We played the first round on the Gold Coast and we were fortunate enough to have a huge group of supporters. All staying at the Hilton at Surfers Paradise, we made our assault on the first gold medal of 2012. We did it the hard way, playing 8 games in 2 and ½ days after a shock early loss. Fortunately with beach volleyball it is a double elimination draw and we had a second chance. We made the most of that and climbed our way back to the top. Winning the final convincingly. Battling also the wind, rain and heat, we left the beach Sunday exhausted yet satisfied with our weekends work.
ST KILDA
Early Feb saw us suit up again for the next round of the National series at St Kilda, Melbourne. I flew in early for some quality training time with Tamsin and we hit the beach determined to dominate from the first whistle. And that we did. 5 quick games this time all the way to the title. Friday and Saturday saw picture perfect conditions, and then it turned (as we have come to expect from Melbourne…A wise old man said, “If you don’t like the weather in Melbourne, just wait a minute!”) and the wind caused a few problems for teams, but we were too sharp all weekend.

SANDSTORM
We have been flat out at Sandstorm too. Hosting the Battle against Ovarian Cancer charity day. 200 plus players attended to raise much needed funds for Ovarian Cancer research….and that they did! $80,000 was raised from the day!
And to round it off, how could I forget our Australian Open tennis experience. Australia Day Presidents reserve tickets. What an awesome experience. We got to see the 2 women’s semi finals from the best seats in the house. (well 2nd best behind the president of tennis Australia) I can only dream that one day our sport of Beach Volleyball will be played on a similar stage! That is my next mission, I think I will wait till after London!
If you haven’t yet seen the Foxtel Olympic highlights, it’s definitely worth a watch.
