Reliving Sydney

podcast sydney relived Aug 26, 2020

This week, I’m in Townsville watching boxer Jeff Horn take on Tim Tszyu. It’s a special visit for a couple of reasons: I first met Jeff in 2012 at Kirribilli House, and he was the most humble, thoughtful and gentle bloke. I couldn’t imagine him as a boxer! I even challenged him to a couple of rounds, and thought I did pretty well! I’ve always said I’d go to one of Jeff’s fights, and this will be the very first time I’ll be cheering him on from the ringside. It’s even more special, as I get to return to my hometown for the experience.

Speaking of bucket lists... earlier this month, I got to re-live my and Kerri Pottharst’s gold medal day for Channel 7’s #Sydney2000: Moments That Moved Us. I had so much fun reminiscing and being able to share the story behind that magical moment where Kerri and I realised a dream we’d been working towards our whole lives.

And in that same spirit, I’m very excited to announce that my next podcast series is coming up. From 15 September – 1 October, On My Day with Nat Cook: Sydney Relived will wind the clock back to 2000, as I interview a swag of Sydney gold medallists and iconic Australian OLYmpians.

The series will open with Sydney flag bearer Andrew Gaze, as well as featuring Kerri Pottharst (whom I have never interviewed before!), Ian Thorpe and one of my early mentors Laurie Lawrence, along with many more. I’ll share the full line-up soon, so keep an eye out!
